Yoga Loft Romances

When Christopher de Mars and Laura Wilcox went public this Spring with their new romance the Yoga Loft was tagged the Yoga Love Studio. A well earned nickname as The Love Studio is credited, in part, with uniting 3 pairs of lovers. The studio is a comfortable place. We have small classes, loving teachers and we all gather together in an effort to improve our lives. It’s an unintimidating space which lends itself to the cultivation of a serene and open inner space.

Within that inner space we explore our vulnerability & strengths. We see how far we can stretch, how deep we can breath, how steady we can balance, how present we can be. We struggle with patience and acceptance. We balance effort and ease. We learn to see ourselves without judgement, we move closer to our true selves and we begin to love who we are, who we truly are. Once we see the good within we can see the good in all.

Yoga, the natural process of integration ( Shiva Rea’s definition), takes time, it’s lifelong, if you believe in reincarnation it’s a many lives long process. It’s not hurried. A dedicated Yoga practice is the incubator for physical and spiritual growth. The 3 romances that incubated @ the loft were unhurried, they were allowed to grow as each individual evolved. Laura and Christophers romance incubated for more than a semester.

Matt Buckingham a rugged firefighter and Cassey Cook the sultry diva, both long time Sonora residents and Yoga Lofters, have been practicing in the same room for over 3 years. They “hooked up” early early Spring.

Jessica and Adam Robertson (married!) did not meet at the Love Studio but are involved in the Loft. Adam was a Columbia College student of mine as was Jessica. Jessica developed our Yoga Tots program and Adam became the Loft web designer. Their friendship started outside of the Loft but they studied their growing relationship with the skills they learned from Yogic self study. A little meddling on my part expediated them into the romantic phase. A teacher has to know when its appropriate to push a student out of their comfort zone!

Best wishes to all our lovers, namaste.

“Went public” kinda implies that we had a secret relationship hidden from public at some point. I’m pretty sure that our fellow yogis in class knew that we were in a relationship before we did.

I concur that the Yoga Love Loft is an excellent place to form new relationships, and not just romantic ones. Those who choose to spend time in a yoga studio tend to be the type of shining spirits that are hard to find through through a brute force search through humanity. Sharing such a sacred space with fellow travelers is truly a wonderful gift. Meeting a companion that makes your soul sing is even better.

    Thank you Cherie,

  3. Christopher & Laura it was written in the stars! Opposite charts. You two are the union of opposites (hatha). Enjoy the dance of your singing souls.

  4. Jessica smile, thanks, you and Adam are the pinnacle of my matchmaking career.

  5. I feel more at home in the Yoga Loft than most places. The atmosphere is tranquil and the people that are drawn to spend hours there seem to be open and light-hearted.

Upon meeting Christopher in the Yoga Loft I already felt at home and open in the familiar setting. It was natural to be at home with my self in this setting and I believe that Christopher saw that in me. Through our semester of casual chatting he and I were able to learn a lot about each other. We were able to connect on a level that is not as easily obtained in the common places for meeting people (bars, clubs, supermarkets, etc.).

In a more recent conversation with Christopher we have come to the conclusion that before our first ‘official’ date we had already become comfortable talking to each other. Our conversations were natural and flowed quite well. All of this came with a foundation of our Yoga practice and being open to the different flows of conversation.

Now, after the beginning of our ‘Yoga Love Studio’ romance, Christopher and I can comically reminisce about our eagerness and enhanced love for our twice-a-week class. Both he and I looked forward to coming to class to see each other and for the love of Yoga (and Cherie). The Yoga Loft now has a foundational and common love in both our hearts in our relationship together.

And like Christopher said, we believe that the members of our class knew that we were dating before he and I did. The journey through this life is funny sometimes and I believe that the process of opening myself to the universe (through my study of Yoga) made me receptable to love at the Yoga Loft.

The love and support of Cherie has opened my eyes and brought many beautiful people in my life–all of which I am thankful for—and more recently has brought Christopher in my life.

    Thank You Cherie,

    Namaste.

    Laura.

Laura and I are now officially engaged to be married.

Thank you again Cherie for bringing the sacred space of the yoga loft to Sonora. I am eternally grateful for what you have helped bring into my life.
